INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CONSERVATION GENETICS FOR MEKONG RIVER BASIN

Nha Trang University collaborated with Can Tho University to host the International Conference on Conservation Genetics in the Mekong River Basin (ICCGMRB 2017) in two days 06 - 07/03/2017.

The conference took place at Can Tho University, with the participation of experts from the United States, France, Norway, Denmark, Australia, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar ... and national experts from Institutes and Universities, technical staff of Department of Fisheries, Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Mekong Delta.

This activity is organized in the framework of Peer project Network between Mekong River countries, and US collaborative partners. The Conference aims to bring together leading academic scientists, researchers, policy makers, and government officers from the US and Mekong River Basin (MRB) countries to exchange and share their experiences and study of conservation genetics research in the MRB. It also provides a premier interdisciplinary forum for researchers, managers, and practitioners to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, concerns, and practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted in the fields of biodiversity conservation and resource management in the MRB

The conference welcome more than 70 scientists, experts, authorities, and students from 11 different countries to this platform where we can share expertise knowledge and experience, as well as discuss on conservation genetics for biodiversity and resource management on MRB.

In the final program, 26 oral presentations and 8 posters are scheduled, including 6 very interesting international plenary/keynote speakers.

As the co-host of the event, Nha Trang University had 1 plenary talk (Dr. Dang Thuy Binh) 6 oral presenting the conference, and 8 posters, including:

1)  Vũ Đặng Hạ Quyên, Trương thị Oanh, Đoàn Vũ Thịnh, Trần Linh Thước, Kent Carpenter, Đặng Thúy Bình. Migratory pattern of Boesemania microlepsis in Mekong Delta and management implication

2)  Đoàn Vũ Thịnh, Vũ Đặng Hạ Quyên, Trương thị Oanh, Đặng Thúy Bình.  Comparative SNPs discovering methods for population genetics case study Boesemania microlepis in Mekong Delta

3)  Đặng Thúy Bình, Kent Carpenter, Vũ Đặng Hạ Quyên, Trương thị Oanh, Đoàn Vũ Thịnh. Amanda Ackiss, Brian Stcokwell, Ellen Biesack.  Comparative phylogeography of Vietnamese Mekong fish - implication for local fragment and seawater intrusion
