LECTURER OF INSTITUTE OF BIOTECHNOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENT PARTICIPATED IN THE WORKSHOP AT SOUTHERN CROSS UNIVERSITY, AUSTRALIA

In the framework of APN project CRRP2019-05MY-Benkendorff “Understanding the interaction of ocean acidification and marine tourism for sustainable management of coral reefs”, Dr. Dang Thuy Binh, with the staff of Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography and Nha Trang Bay Management Department, participated in the workshop at SCU University, Australia.

The workshop took place from 2-7 November 2019. Project members listened to scientific presentations on coral diversity, conservation and restoration; activities of marine protected areas in Australia and Southeast Asian countries; reef check program; Sociological and economic surveys on the value of ecosystems ... by experts from Australia and Southeast Asian countries.

Dr.  Kirsten presented metaanalysis on the effects of ocean acidification and presurvey in Hon Mun MPA. Project members also agreed on scuba diving to collect samples, survey forms and analyze data.

This is an important project to study the impact of the diving industry and ocean acidification on coral reef ecosystems. In the near future, project members from Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam will conduct surveys in host countries.
