Institute for Biotechnology and Environment, Nha Trang University and Department of Biological Sciences, Old Dominion University, Virginia, USA, organized a training course on Molecular Ecology with funded from Coral Triangle Pire project: (www.sci.odu.edu / IMPA / ctpire.html).
The training takes place in 1 month, including field sampling, Marine Biotechnology Conference, theory couses and practice in the lab. 20 students from the Institute for Biotechnology and Environment, Faculty of Aquaculture, Nha Trang University, Institute of Aquaculture Research N03 and Nha Trang Oceanographic Institute. The training course also provides opportunities for undergradiate students.
Teaching staff from Old Dominion University and University of California, USA. The participants were provided the basic knowledge of Oceanography, Ecological Genetics and New generation sequencing. Besides, the students have been practicing the techniques of modern molecular biology, optimizing PCR reactions and access to data analysis of bioinformatics. The rapporteur presented very interesting research on population genetics within the CT-Pire projects in the Philippines and Indonesia.
End of the course, the students presented the results of their group research and lively dícussed about the populations connectivity and ocean currents. All participants were delivered the certificates from Old Dominion University. Three members of the Institute of Biotechnology and Environment has been invited to attend the review meeting of the CT – Pire project in the Philippines.
