From 15-25/7/2012, Training workshop on Advance genomic applications to Marine Science and Resource Management in South East Asia was held in Dumaguete, Philippines. Workshop was hosted by the Silliman University with funding from the National Science Foundation (NFS), U.S. More than 60 scientists from universities and research institutes around the world attended. Prof. Kent Carpenter, Old Dominion University chaired the workshop.
Scientists have presented the results of next generation sequencing application in population genetics research, resource management and adaptation of organisms to environmental change.
The workshop also organized a training course on bioinformatics, next generation sequencing application in the detection of molecular markers, and gene expression data analysis. At the same time, organized diving trip in marine protected areas (Appo Island) where there a high biodiversity is presented.
On the sidelines of the conference, many of the social activities were held. Scientists have had many discussions on research and management of marine resources in Southeast Asia, the application of the specific research projects.
