Research

As an undergraduate at UNC Wilmington, I studied the population structure of the southern kingfish (Menticirrhus americanus) in the Mid Atlantic Bight (Virginia, N. Carolina, S. Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, USA) using the mitochondrial ATPase 6 gene. In 2013, I was picked up by the Carpenter Lab at ODU to expand previous genetic research on the pink-ear emperor Lethrinus lentjan to include next generation sequencing through restriction site-associated DNA (RAD) markers. My study area spans from Thailand and Vietnam throughout the Philippine Archipelago. I am interested in increasing the utilization of molecular research in fisheries management and improving means for sustainable fishing at the local level.
